This past Saturday, David and I headed to Breton to photograph the country wedding of Luzia and Howie. We started with photos at Luzia's parent's home. Luzia is from a large family and the house was all full of activity with getting ready. Luzia's dress was perfectly suited to an outdoor country wedding. It was very stylish, yet had an antique look to it with the lace on it. It was absolutely beautiful. It was a fantastic day for an outdoor fall wedding and the ceremony took place in a field in front of some fantastic fall coloured trees on her parent's property. Howie and his groomsmen came in on a quad! It was pretty awesome to see. Not to be outdone, Luzia and her wedding party walked toward the amazingly decorated "alter" with her horse. Her Dad met her halfway and walked her with her horse the rest of the way to Howie. They had the cutest little bridesmaid and not one but two (twin) ring bearers! They all did an amazing job the entire day! The ceremony was beautifully performed by local pastor, Jeff Gooderham . This wedding had a lot of very unique, creative details including a branding ceremony! I was so excited when I heard they were doing this! I love new ideas and this one did not disappoint. Howie and Luzia took a branding iron with their initials from their first names and branded a beautiful piece of wood. What a fantastic keepsake! Howie's two sisters sang and played guitar during the signing. After Luzia and Howie were pronounced husband and wife, the fire fighter's honour guard were there for them to walk back down the "aisle". Most of you will remember the amazing shots we got of firefighters, Luzia and Howie for their engagement at their firehall.
Right after the ceremony and family photos were over, we got a brief rain/hail storm. It did not last long and cleared up for the rest of the day so we were able to get some great shots for them at both Luzia's parents as well as Howie and Luzia's property. It was so fantastic that Howie and Luzia were up for anything that we asked of them. It is with couples like them that we can try out some new ideas and give them completely unique shots.
Their reception followed at the Breton community hall. And, let me tell you - that hall looked amazing. Again, they thought of every detail and it was absolutely beautiful. Their cake was made by Once Upon A Cake from Leduc and was one of the coolest cakes I have ever seen. It was topped with two cows riding a tractor. Very appropriate since Luzia's cattle mean a lot to her - I forgot to mention we got some great shots with the wedding party and the herd of cattle at her parents? The meal was catered by Marisa's Catering from Breton and was absolutely delicious and was followed by desserts that were from their respective heritages of Dutch and Swiss. The dance music was provided by Gary Mastre.
Thanks to one of Luzia's fun bridesmaids, who was more than willing to stop by her own home and pick us up a bench, we were also able to take Luzia and Howie out to try a shot I was hoping to do in the evening. Thank you so much for doing that, Jessica!
Luzia and Howie, you made our job so much fun and your wedding party was fantastic as well. Thank you so much for giving us the privilege of photographing your special day! We wish you so much happiness!
